How to clip a Twitch stream: the simple guide (2026)

Want to turn the best moments of your streams (or the ones you watch) into short clips for TikTok, Instagram or YouTube? Good news: clipping a Twitch stream takes a few seconds. Here are the 2 official methods, their limits, and a smarter way to never miss a good moment.

1. Clip during the live (the fast way)

This is the simplest way: it captures the last 60 seconds of the stream in one move.

During the live, press the keyboard shortcut Alt + X. (Or move your mouse to the bottom-right of the player and click the Clip button, the clapperboard icon.)
An editor opens with the last 60 seconds. Adjust the start and end with the timeline handles — a clip can last between 5 and 60 seconds.
Give your clip a title, then click Publish. You get a shareable link right away.

2. Clip from a VOD (a past broadcast)

Missed the moment live? You can still clip it from the VOD (the replay), as long as it's still online.

Go to the channel, open the Videos tab and play the past broadcast.

Trim and publish the same way.

Careful: VODs don't stay forever. Usually:

7 days for a standard account,
14 days for an Affiliate,
up to 60 days for Partners, Turbo and Prime.

And you must have enabled VOD storage in your creator dashboard (Settings → Stream). After that, the replay is deleted — so clip your best moments before they vanish.

The limits of manual clipping

These methods work, but when you stream for hours they quickly show their limits:
